Three police personnel were shot dead by blackbuck poachers in Saga Barkheda village in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna district late on Friday night.

The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of Aron police station, some 160 km from the state capital, when the policemen had gone to nab the poachers after receiving a tip-off from informers.

The deceased have been identified as sub-Inspector Rajkumar Jatav, head constable Sant Ram Meena and constable Neeraj Bhargava.

Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra has said the culprits will not be spared and strict action will be taken against them. "Three brave police officers were martyred in a firing by criminals near Guna. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is personally monitoring the case," Mishra said.

Inspector general of Gwalior Anil Sharma has been removed from the post in light of the incident.

CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan will hold a high-level emergency meeting at 9.30 am at his residence in connection with this incident, an official from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said. Senior police officers including the DGP, home minister, chief secretary and others will attend the meeting.

The chief minister has announced an ex gratia of Rs 1 crore each to the bereaved families of the three deceased police personnel.
